My journey into soft sculpture began about eightyears ago. I had been painting for several years and specialised in animal portraiture, particularly dogs. I had the privilege to paint some of Australia's biggest winning show dogs! I had become bored with the two dimensional painting and couldn't find anything challenging enough to satisfy my creativity. Until I discovered teddy bears! I immediately saw a way to use all my ideas in the one concept. After much experimentation I devised a new technique which allows me to internally sculpt mouths into my creations. This gives a more animated look to the bears/rabbits and a very realistic look to my dogs. | |
My bears are inspired by the youngest of my six children, who when 12 months old had only two little
teeth at the front. While she herself is the worlds smallest tornado! The look is definitely worth preserving! As you can imagine, with six children
and my artwork, my life is always busy, its just as well I happen to also have the best husband in the world, and the fact that he is a hairdresser
definitely is a plus! He is terrific with mohair. |
